Aerodynamics and lightweight construction played the main role in the design. It’s a Porsche GT model, after all. The most notable change is the more aggressive front fascia matching that of the recently updated 911 GT3, which itself borrows the design of the latest Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racing car.
In addition, the hood and front fenders are made of carbon fiber, and the roof is made of magnesium. As on the 2018 911 GT2 RS, the NACA ducts in the hood optimize brake cooling without increasing drag. The front wing features a larger spoiler lip than on the previous model, which increases downforce in conjunction with the larger side skirts. At the rear, the large wing mounted on the carbon fiber deck cover works in combination with a rear underbody diffuser. The result is more than twice the downforce of the regular GT3 the car is based on.
The most powerful naturally aspirated engine
As mentioned, there remains a 4-cylinder 4-liter. Also power has been increased by 20 horsepower to a new total of 520 horsepower and torque of 8 lb-ft at 346. This was achieved by increasing revs up to a maximum of 9,000 rpm, and sees the GT3 RS reach 60 mph in 3.0 seconds, 0.1 seconds more than before. The drive is still to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Porsche won't be adding a manual transmission to its updated GT3 RS like it has with the regular GT3, although we're sure these guys will.
The rear wheel steering system has been sharpened. At the rear a new set of 21-inch and 20-inch front forged wheels. Wheels with 265/35 and 325/30 tires, respectively. In addition, the updated GT3 RS suspension features new auxiliary springs at the front axle, in addition to the rear. In fact, these work in conjunction with a set of standard active dampers.
In addition, there is a reduction in weight thanks to the addition of a lighter engine cover. New carbon fiber seat shells and reduced sound deadening material. It is possible to lose weight by adding an available Weissach group. Also by choosing magnesium wheels (only available with the Weissach group) on the standard forged set and carbon-ceramic brake discs on the standard cast set. When equipped with these options, the car's curb weight drops to 3,153 pounds.
Price and availability
Pricing for the 2019 GT3 RS will start at $ 188,550. Also the Weissach package will cost you $ 18,000 more. If you also want the magnesium wheels, you will need to add an additional $ 13,000.
