The design of the Lamborghini Jarama is once again signed by Bertone.
The Lamborghini Jarama GT entered the market in 1970. As a follow-up model of the Islero, the Jarama was a 2 + 2 Grand Tourer powered by Lamborghini's V12 4L. Designed by Marcello Gandini of Bertone, the Jarama was built on a shortened Sword chassis, which had been created to meet the standards of the American automotive market.
The body of the pre-production models - assembled by Car body Marazzi in Caronno Pertusella (near Varese), which had just completed production of the Islero. The production models were to be produced at the Car body Bertone factory in Grugliasco (near Turin). The last 100 copies of the Jarama, produced in 1972. They turned out to be a mixture of body parts pressed by Bertone and assembled by Marazzi.
Interior
Equipped with leather upholstery and air conditioning, the interior was exceptionally luxurious. Space, respectable for a sports car, also offered a relatively large trunk. From the Geneva Motor Show in 1972, production expanded to include the 365 hp Jarama GTS version. It had a transverse air inlet on the hood and two air outlets behind the front wheel arches.
Inside there was a new dashboard with modified instruments and a different shape of the front seats for more space behind them. The wheels of the GTS were also different; the central lock - omitted and the less elaborate alloy rims.
Motorization
The engine, powered by six double Weber carburettors (type 40 DCOE). It was the proven V12 unit with double overhead camshafts per cylinder row. It developed a power of 350 hp and allowed the car to reach a top speed of 260 km / h.
Verdict
The Jarama, of which a total of 328 units (176 GT and 152 GTS) were produced. It is an important model in the history of Lamborghini: it was the last GT with a front engine from Sant’Agata Bolognese. Because apart from the super SUV LM002 and Urus, Lamborghini's have only had mid-size engines since then. Lamborghini official website
